How do the six modes differ?
The scoring objective is the quickest way to understand a playlist. The official Steam store names six modes and explains their rules. Learn that rule before comparing your kill total with anyone else’s: a good elimination away from the objective may still leave your team losing the round.
| Mode | What the official rule rewards | First thing to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Turf War | Points from territory held by your gang | Which turf your team holds |
| GangBang | More team kills than the other gang | Team positions and the kill score |
| Chaos | The most individual kills | Threats from every direction |
| Hit A Lick | Bringing the enemy bag back to your hood | Both bags, not only your attack |
| Destroy The Block | Planting or defusing the bomb | Your role and your one life |
| Chain Snatch | Collecting enemy chains; denying friendly drops | Pickups after a fight |
This page does not assign invented round lengths, score caps or team sizes. Read the settings of the match you join. If you want a quiet place to compare the rules, start with a custom bot match.
Turf War: make territory the reason for your route
Your gang earns points for turf it controls. An editorial practice goal is to learn one approach to a contested area and one route back to friendly support. Chasing a player across the map without checking the territory situation can pull you away from the thing that produces points.

When you practise, ask whether you can reach the area, stay near cover and respond when your team loses it. The map-learning guide offers a route worksheet rather than unverified spawn diagrams.
GangBang and Chaos: know who is on your side
GangBang is a team shootout: the gang with the most kills wins. Staying close enough to support a teammate is a sensible starting exercise. It gives you a reason to watch friendly positions instead of treating every doorway as an isolated duel.
Chaos removes that team relationship. It is free-for-all, and the highest individual kill total wins. Do not carry a team-mode assumption into it. After firing, consider where another player could approach from; retreating to cover can be a useful practice habit even when you just won a fight.
Hit A Lick: protect a return route
The official task is to steal the other gang’s bag and bring it to your own hood while watching your team’s bag. Think about the return trip before your group commits to the outward push. One person reaching the bag does not make the route home safe.

For a group of friends, a useful exercise is to alternate between attacking and defending, then compare what each side could see. Use team voice settings so a call intended for your group is sent to the right audience.
Destroy The Block: value your one life
One gang has the bomb; the opposing gang must stop the plant or defuse it. The Steam description explicitly gives you one life per round. That changes how you should approach an unfamiliar doorway compared with a respawn-based shootout.
Learn the objective before experimenting with a completely new weapon setup. A simple practice aim is to explain your intended route and fallback to a friend before the round starts. This is planning advice, not a claim about an undisclosed optimal plant spot.
Chain Snatch: decide whether a pickup is safe
An elimination is only part of the job. Enemy chains provide points, and recovering your teammates’ chains keeps them away from the other gang. Check the approach to a drop before running into it; a chain in the open can attract more than one player.

For your first session, use the beginner routine to learn one rule well. Add the next playlist once you can explain what makes your current one end in a win.
